Third Sunday of Advent – “Will You Let Him In?” featuring
The Touchdown Sunset Praise Band
The third Sunday of Advent, Dec. 17 will focus on the lighting of
the candle of Joy. A delightful evening of music and story by the
Touchdown Sunset Praise Band from the Brownsville Church of
the Brethren. Their theme will be “Christmas by Candlelight.” This
service is an acoustical set of Christmas music presented by a group
of talented musicians whose goal is “to proclaim His story through
song and word” while basking in the soft glow of candlelight. Hear
the music of Christmas and listen to the story of Christmas as it is
told in the scriptures. Prepare you heart for Christmas Day and
receive Him as the center of your celebration.
Christmas Eve Services
At Fairview, Christ’s coming is always marked by four special
services on Christmas Eve. A traditional family style service
is featured at 5:00 pm and is always well attended. Pastor Paul
Leatherman from the Edgewood and Sam’s Creek Church of the
Brethren will once again lead this service. The theme of the evening
“Do You Have Room” will be presented through the special message
and a Christmas musical portrait especially designed for the adults
and children who are present.
The 7:00 service will be conducted by Pastor Gary Byers, an
ordained Baptist minister who currently serves as chaplain of the
Helping Up Mission in Baltimore, MD. As a biblical archeologist
and scholar of the Holy Land, he is well equipped to bring his
personal experiences of Holy Land places and events in the biblical
message that he brings to the chapel.
This year, the third service on Christmas Eve will be held at 9:30 PM.
This is a change in the normal time of Christmas Eve Services. Rev.
Scott Clawson from the New Market United Methodist Church will
officiate at this service. A special music highlight will be featured as
in all of the Christmas Eve services.
An 11:00 service of communion, with the sharing of the Lord’s
Supper with all in attendance will mark His arrival. The Rev. Dr.
Jenny Smith from the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church will
guide this service which concludes the Christmas Eve worship
at the chapel. Teresa Martin will present a musical tribute to the
Christ child and to all hearts who welcome him.
New Year’s Eve Celebration and Commitment Communion
The community is invited to attend a special 7:00 PM New Year’s
Eve celebration at the chapel. Returning this year after a long
absence will be retired Pastor Bud Lusk from the Locust Grove
Church of the Brethren. Fairview Chapel is excited to have Pastor
Lusk joining them again as he guides a special New Year’s Eve
communion and service of self-commitment, “Our Journey Into
the New Year”. Join in this remembrance of Christmas and special
tribute to the New Year. This service will also include special music
led by accomplished musician Teresa Martin.
