Looking Forward
Over time , every vibrant organization evolves . Some past practices are eliminated , others change significantly , and still others are tweaked slightly . The emphasis of the group takes on a new direction . The times and norms around it change . The Kiawah Conservancy has indeed found this to be true . No longer is it just a land acquisition organization , though that remains a vital activity . After 20 years of conservation work on Kiawah and establishing itself as an accredited land trust , the Conservancy has devoted much of its attention to education . Our goal with our educational programs is to highlight activities and concepts that support the preservation of vital habitat on Kiawah .
Our Conservation Matters programs offer topicspecific presentations on a monthly basis . Our annual symposiums provide in-depth explorations into the flora and fauna of the Island . Professionally produced documentary films explore the lives of the most popular of Kiawah inhabitants . So far , we have highlighted developing with nature , turtles , alligators , shorebirds , and ( coming in 2019 ) bobcats .
Our award-winning Naturally Kiawah magazine goes deep into topics of interest to us all . Self-guided Naturally Kiawah Pathways walking and biking tours , available through the TravelStorys app on our smartphones and tablets , educate us about the geography , wildlife , and plant life of our wonderful island . And children are enthralled with our Kiawah Conservancy Explores Bobcat Trail augmented reality game through the free Agents of Discovery app also available for our smart devices .
As the Kiawah Conservancy evolves , more changes will come down the road . The future starts now — stay tuned !
