The Polk County Board of Supervisors has both legislative and
administrative powers and is the policy-making body for Polk County
government. With its authority to adopt legislation and policies for
department operations, the Board sets priorities, allocates resources and
maintains budgetary control.
The Polk County government addresses hunger through the Department
of Community, Family & Youth Services, which manages and provides a
variety of direct and purchased services for families and individuals in all
age groups. Their programs include the General Assistance
Program, Child and Adult Care Food Program, Commodity Supplemental
Food Program, and River Place Food Pantry.
The Board of Supervisors is also directly involved in creating
the Partnership for a Hunger Free Polk County, a public-private
collaboration to ensure all residents have access to needed food.
