PSYCHICS DIRECTORY 2017 IPA in Review Hiromi Mitsuya T he Australian Psychics Association (APA) was founded in 1983 and expanded to become the International Psychics Association (IPA) in 2013. The IPA continues the tradition and vision of the APA by acknowledging psychic ability is real and promoting guidelines for professional and ethical conduct for psychic practitioners. The IPA is regularly contacted by people looking for the ‘right’ psychic. This ranges from members of the public who are wanting a reading and businesses wanting psychics for a corporate event to journalists and media agents wanting input for articles or for psychics to appear in television programs. It is our task to recommend the best psychic for each occasion. * * * The IPA was contacted by a Japanese TV station (TV Asahi) on Christmas Day in 2015. They produced a special investigative program using three international mediums including Debbie Malone, the recipient of the 2013 Australian Psychic of the Year Award. The program featured a missing persons case Debbie assisted with and was aired in January 2016 in Japan. It is available to view on YouTube—in Japanese. https://youtu.be/2uxsOUssN_o * * * The documentary, Psychics in the Suburbs, aired on ABC2 in November 2016. Produced by Media Stockade and featuring Florence King, the program looked at the business of being a psychic medium. The documentary followed Florence King’s work for a year following her receipt of the 2014 Psychic People’s Choice Award. The documentary contains some scenes from Florence King. It is available to view on the ABC2 website till 4 January 2017. * * * In early May 2016, the IPA was contacted by CNBC in the USA with regards to an article on financial fraud: They Saw Them Coming: Five Outrageous Psychic Scams by Scott Cohn. The cases of fraud covered and highlighted the need to raise people’s awareness of what they should or should not expect from a psychic. Here is an extract from the article: For those of us who remain skeptical, there are actually organizations that claim to promote and enforce ethical standards among psychics. At the top of its 8-point code of ethics, the Australia- based International Psychics Association says its members ‘should give advice as responsibly and accurately as possible.’ You can read the full article online at http://www.cnbc. com/2016/07/27/they-saw- them-coming-five-outrageous- psychic-scams.html. This article was published online on the day after Simon Turnbull’s birthday, then republished two days after my birthday in 2016. I feel this is confirmation from Simon that he is helping spread the IPA’s message to more people. * * * An article published in The Sydney Morning Herald in October 2016 questioned why more people than ever are going to psychics and fortune tellers. The IPA was approached for comment and the full article, Into the mystic: Why more people are going to psychics than ever before, by Samantha Selinger-Morris, is available to read at http://www. smh.com.au/lifestyle/life-and- relationships/into-the-mystic- why-more-people-are-going- to-psychics-than-ever-before- 20161019-gs6ga4.html. * * * If you would like to connect with a psychic in your area for readings or to attend any classes being offered, visit www.internationalpsychics association.com.
