The new 8-wheeled 1170G harvester is
John Deere ’ s response to the challenges of logging in areas with soft terrain

The machine convincingly combines the low ground pressure required on soft terrain , the climbing ability needed on slopes , and economic operation . The new harvester has been put to the test for more than 600 hours in Central Finland , and the test operators ’ experience with the new 8-wheeledharvester leaves little room for interpretation .

“ As an operator , I have only positive things to say about this machine , I ’ ve really enjoyed operating it !” sums up Kone-Yijälä Oy operator Harri Soini .
Stable , but agile Soini has more than 21 years of experience with forest machines , so there are plenty of candidates for comparison . Even so , he can ’ t come up with a single machine comparable to the 8-wheeled 1170G .
“ Of all the advantages this machine has , its stability is what first comes to mind . On the other hand , as an 8-wheeler , it ’ s better at staying on top of the terrain and it feels more robust ,” Soini describes the machine at UPM ’ s boggy and hilly logging site at Ouninpohja in
