Damp conditions didn ’ t sour the mood of most at the Elmia Wood convention in Sweden this year . Exhibitors , committed more than a year ( or more ) ago to attending and making significant investments in the interim toward their booths , were always going to prove resolute .

It was the visitors who really impressed , turning up in undiluted numbers to tread around the muddy tracks in the hope of finding a technology that might change their operating lives . For most , it was a successful trip .
Perhaps we should not be so surprised by the resilience shown by all . This is , after all , an outdoor industry , and those at the show are used to working in the rain – it ’ s only precious editors used to working from the comfort of the office that find rain and mud inconvenient .
In any case , we ’ ve picked just a handful of the hundreds of new offerings on display that week to look back on in this review edition .
Revolutionary control panels for forest machines
Logset has developed new control panels that make driving of forest machines easy , while the driver can always sit comfortably when driving . The new design for the control panels , particularly the new operating levers , allow the driver to seamlessly interact with the machine ’ s control system and crane . The new controls are also adjustable to different styles of driving .
The new operating levers for harvesters have 13 buttons on each handle , which means 26 buttons in total . The operating lever has the same shape and size as the previous model , but because of the added buttons , the harvester driver never needs to let go of the operating levers while working . The new panels have improved ergonomics as the height and angle of both the wrist support and the palette can be adjusted separately .
The new palette consists of a silicone mat with lit buttons . The silicone mat protects the buttons
New levels of comfort and operability with the Logset control panels
from moisture and dirt . All the buttons on the silicone mat have a unique feel so the driver can easily identify them by touch .
Both palettes have a lever that the driver can steer with his little finger without letting go of the operating lever . The lever on the right palette is for frame steering and the lever on the left palette is for optional functions like controlling the crane tilt or steering the bulldozer blade .
Heizohack chips in with size reduction technology The manually-fed Heizohack wood chippers can break down all wood waste , such as slats , beams , logs , blocks or branches and trunks with a diameter up to a maximum of 300 mm or 400 mm .
A steel conveyor belt and a pressure roller with welded tongs
The feed table and ejector spout are foldable
ensure a powerful and reliable feeding of the material .
The Heizohack wood chippers are equipped with a low-drag drum chip rotor . Thereby , flawless operation is also possible with low-drive performance and the fuel consumption is reduced . The drive can use a propeller shaft , via an internal combustion engine ( HM 6-300 VM ) or via an electric-motor ( HM 4 / 6-300 EM , HM 5 / 6 / 8-400 EM ).
The hydraulic feed units supply is facilitated by its own on-board hydraulic system . An external oil supply is not necessary .
The size of the wood chips can be influenced by the individuallyadjustable feed speed and the easily exchanged sieve . The ejection of long pieces is prevented by the sieve .
The counter knife can be used quadrilaterally . The quick exchangeable blades can be re-sharpened with a hand-held grinder when fitted .
The feed table and the ejector spout are foldable and supported by pneumatic shock dampers . As an option , the chipper of the series HM 400 can be provided with a hydraulically height-adjustable ejector tower .
The ejection height can be adjusted from 2.9 m to 4.1 m . The activity of the ejector tower taken place by a hand pump and a double-acting hydraulic cylinder . Upon request , the ejector tower rotation and the ejector flap adjustment are possible through short-wired remote control .
The feed speed is adjustable
