hammers , as well as being able to externally balance the drum .
The grinder is equipped with Vermeer SmartFeed and Thrown Object Deflector ( TOD ) technology . SmartFeed optimizes machine performance and production electronically and allows the operator to focus on loading raw product and move finished product about the jobsite . This function stops and reverses material from feeding into the hammermill when the engine ’ s rpm drops below efficient operating range . Vermeer TOD decreases the quantity and distance of thrown objects , which allows the machine to be operated in a smaller “ safe ” work zone . The TOD is hinged and can be raised or lowered with the remote control depending upon grinding applications .
The remote allows the operator to engage the tracks for onsite manoeuvrability and view . Additionally , it allows the operator to change a variety of settings

during operation while monitoring various engine parameters from inside the loader cab or in a remote location .
Vermeer HG8000TX Horizontal Grinder The HG8000TX horizontal grinder from Vermeer boasts the largest infeed opening in its class , helping to increase productivity and expand job possibilities . Powered by an 1,125 hp ( 839 kW ) Cat engine , this unit handles big-diameter wood and large , brushy debris with ease . Plus , its innovative design incorporates several features to help reduce material spillage and jobsite cleanup time .
The grinder features dualsided reversible hammers and tips that provide increased cutting performance , lower maintenance , and nearly double the life of singlesided designs . A replaceable mill liner fully lines the sides , floor and underside of the feed roller carrier , helping protect structural integrity . Bolt-in liners can also be easily replaced when their wear limit is reached .

Vermeer HG6000TX Horizontal Grinder The Vermeer HG6000TX grinder is powered by a 755 hp ( 563 kW ) Cat C18 Tier 4 Final or Tier 4i engine . It is equipped with 26 in ( 66 cm ) double grouser track pads to help reduce ground pressure . The suspension plenty of ground clearance under the track undercarriage , making it ideal for tough-to-reach jobsites and uneven terrain .
With a ground speed of up to 2.6 miles / h ( 4.2 km / h ), the HG6000TX grinder can move fast onsite to help it keep pace with loading equipment . To transport the machine , the operator can track a grinder onto an optional DT6 dolly transport system ). The new dolly transport system eliminates the need for a conventional trailer .
Optional Vermeer Damage Defence System All three Vermeer self-propelled track grinders can be outfitted with the new Vermeer Damage Defence system . The new system senses vibration from the hammermill striking certain metal contaminants , and helps reduce the likelihood of major machine damage . If the mill comes in contact with the metal contaminates while grinding , the Damage Defense system will alert the operator via the remote and automatically initiate the shutdown process .

down , reverses the infeed and disengages the clutch . Once the contaminant is removed , normal operation can resume .
“ The optional Damage Defense system is ideal for grinder operations that may encounter metal mixed in their incoming material ,” said Bradley . “ The system can be factory-installed on new Vermeer horizontal and tub grinders , and is available as a refitted option for select older Vermeer models .”
The Vermeer Damage Defence system uses exclusive technology to sense metal impact vibration in the mill area , and operators can easily adjust the sensitivity settings based on jobsite conditions to help reduce nuisance shutdowns . It is integrated into the grinder ’ s controls system and features robust components and a weather-resistant box .
