Weyerhaeuser selling southern timberlands

Weyerhauser have just announced an agreement to sell its timberlands and manufacturing business in Uruguay to a consortium led by BTG Pactual ’ s Timberland Investment Group ( TIG ), including other longterm institutional investors , for $ 402.5 million .
The transaction includes over 120,000 hectares of timberlands in northeastern and north central Uruguay , as well as a plywood and veneer manufacturing facility , a
cogeneration facility , and a seedling nursery .
“ Our Uruguay business is a unique combination of highquality timberlands , value-added manufacturing operations and skilled and dedicated people , and this transaction will best position the business to reach its full potential ,” said Doyle R . Simons , president and chief executive officer . “ I am proud of the contributions our Uruguay
employees have made to the success of Weyerhaeuser and the contributions they will make to the future success of these operations .”
The transaction is subject to customary purchase price adjustments and closing conditions , including regulatory review , and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2017 . Weyerhaeuser Uruguay and the buyer consortium will continue to operate separately until the transaction closes .

Kuhmo Oy Selects Heinola ’ s new fully automatic high capacity HTC progressive kiln

Kuhmo Oy has ordered a fully automatic high capacity 2-zone progressive kiln type HTC with an annual capacity of ca . 65 000 m3 from Heinola Sawmill Machinery Inc .
The drying kiln can be used for drying of pine and spruce timber with thicknesses of 16 – 50 mm from sawn green timber to the final
moisture of 12 – 18 %.
The turnkey delivery consists also energy measuring system , high capacity heat recovery unit , pressure frames and HEINOLA ’ s advanced Dry Kiln Control System .
The new progressive kiln will be taken into production early 2018 . This investment eliminates the bottleneck in Kuhmo Oy ’ s process
and thereby enables increase in production .
