Thermal treatment using high pressure

Pressure treating plant from IWT

The well-known supplier of thermal treatment and chemical treatment plants , IWT , with more than 1,200 units around the world show the latest developments in their system for SSP thermal treatment at Ligna 2017 using high pressure in a closed process .

The plants are manufactured for capacities between 1,500 m3 and 7,500 m3 annually per unit . The process improves timber properties with regard to durability against rot , fungi and insects , increases dimensional stability radically , and provides timber with a nice warm brown color . The process from IWT , Moldrup-SSP , treats the timber with a final moisture content not lower than 4 - 6 %, making further processing easy and at temperatures between 160 and 200 C .
Recent customers for the newest system in 2016 are Atlanta Hardwood and Bingaman Lumber in United States . The plants come with an optional system for handling of all emissions from the process . Capex from 150,000 Euro turn-key .
IWT also present their plants and equipment for pressure treating with capacities between 1,000 m3 and 100,000 m3 annually , completely automatic handling systems , and creosoting plants .
A new vacuum dryer for smaller capacities of freshly sawn hard to dry species like oak and eucalyptus with thicknesses of 50 mm and more from 80 % moisture content is shown at the Ligna 2017 exhibition . Finally IWT present their new service department for after-salesservicing of pressure impregnation plants and vacuum dryers for efficient handling of all service issues and automated control systems online and on-site .
