White River

White River is located on the Trans Canada Highway 17 , approximately 3.5 hours northwest of Sault Ste . Marie and 4 hours east of Thunder Bay . A small northern community completely surrounded by gray granite and tall dark pines , White River is rich in rail history and noted for the birthplace of the ‘ real bear ’ Winnie-the-Pooh , which has given us a unique heritage .

Hornepayne

The community of Hornepayne , 97 km ( 60 mi ) north of White River on Highway 631 , is situated in the heart of the Boreal Forest . The lakes and forest surrounding this railway and lumber community make it a haven for sport fishing and hunting . Snowmobile and cross-country ski trails abound . Travelers can board the VIA passenger train which travels through our community on its coast to coast trek .

Our municipal airport has a paved runway , 3,500 ft in length , which is used for both private / charter aircraft and medivac services .
