November 30, 2017
Dear Friends,
Thank you for joining us at the 2017 WEC Awards Dinner! The theme for
tonight is “be the one who changes the world” and the seven outstanding
honorees we are recognizing are doing just that.
Because of our honorees’ work, workers are better protected and empowered
to stand up for their rights; environmental justice issues have been brought
to light; immigrants have been empowered to stand up for their rights;
teachers and education professionals have united to demand safety and
health; and legislators have passed a strong bill to protect workers and
communities from rail car hazards.
Again this year, we pause to acknowledge the many leaders, coalition
partners and members that have helped establish and protect the
fundamental health, safety and environmental safeguards that are essential to
our workplaces and communities. Without the support of these individuals,
and their organizations, many of the accomplishments about which we are
so proud, would not have been possible.
However, we know this is just the beginning and we have more work to do.
In the absence of federal leadership, states like New Jersey have a critical
role to play. We know WEC and our allies are ready to stand together and
fight.
Congratulations again to all of our distinguished honorees. Thank you
as well to everyone that sponsored, placed an ad in our commemorative
journal, or purchased a ticket. We rely on your support to continue our
work and we look forward to working with you to continue advancing our
collective agenda.
In Solidarity,
Rev. Fletcher Harper
