FEB 25 A piece of music so wild, so barbaric, and yet so brilliant that it incited a riot, Stravinsky’ s Rite of Spring is terrifying, beautiful and aweinspiring. Branford Marsalis, who belongs to one of the greatest American musical dynasties, joins the BSO for two melodic French pieces for saxophone and orchestra.

Marin Alsop conducts an all-Tchaikovsky program including Romeo and Juliet Fantasy-Overture and Suite from Swan Lake. Tchaikovsky is famous for ballet, yet his Serenade for Strings was not originally composed for dance. Its poignant themes inspired world-renowned choreographer George Balanchine to transform it into a ballet. Experience this graceful score destined for dance under the direction of Heather Watts, one of the last to be promoted to principal dancer by Balanchine.
