GC’s Yost Runs to
Top-75 Finish at
NCAA National
Championship
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Wrapping her career at the
2017 NCAA Division II National Championship
Saturday morning, senior Katherine Yost
(Norcross, Georgia) braved the cold and a
massive 247-runner field to take 74th place.
Yost crossed the line in her final 6K at 22:23.8,
good for fourth in school history. She owns
the top seven times in the school recordbooks.
The finish is a 26-place improvement over last
year’s run at the NCAA Finals, as Yost was the
first Bobcat in program history to qualify for the
NCAA Championship race.
“I felt pretty good until the last ‘K’, I got a pretty
bad cramp but other than that it went well,” said
Yost. “I completed my career just how I wanted
to. I couldn’t have done much better in my
opinion.”
The senior closed her career in style this year,
posting five race wins, including the Peach Belt
Conference (PBC) Championship in October. She
was named the first PBC Runner of the Year in
school history, and finishes as the first three-
time All-Region honoree as well.
“It’s been fun to watch her improve and get
better every year,” said head coach Steven Cary.
“We’ve had to learn a lot through these last
four years, but it’s been great. Top-75 is an elite
group.”
The Bobcat junior finished fifth among
Southeast Region runners in today’s action, and
tops among PBC harriers.
Adams State University won the National
Championship with just 126 points, beating the
University of Mary by 11.
