20 companies were visited in FY18
spanning a wide variety of industries.
About one quarter of the companies
visited reported they were having
difficulty in filling open positions.
This is slightly down from last year.
However, this trend may change as the
labor market continues to tighten and
companies find themselves competing
for top talent.

Annual Report - 2017/18
The work that the department is doing
through the Trojan Business Alliance
(TBA) is helping some companies with
their talent needs. Now in it’s second
year, the TBA’s Career Prep Program
has helped over 100 students gain
employment skills and has placed
graduating seniors in local companies.
This new pipeline of young talent is
giving local companies access to a
whole new talent pipeline.
Career Fairs connect today’s employers
with tomorrow’s workforce
“VSC Fire & Security has attended
3 career fairs in the past 2 years.
We have had great success in hiring
students from the Garner Magnet
school and would
highly recommend
attending these
fairs to any
company.”
“Garner Magnet
High School’s Career
Day started a journey
that would inevitably
become a rewarding and
meaningful career.
Events like Career Day extend a helping hand into the
workforce as well as the opportunity to be trained
in the occupational field. Undeniably, career day
is not just a generous social event, it is more so a
fundamental necessity to both wandering students
and expanding communities alike.”
