HEART OF GOLD
In the harsh Canadian prairie winters of Evelyn & Ernest Rady ’ s youth , shelter from the storm was an essential of life .
Without such sanctuary , the world remains an unforgiving place . This is why a prairie windbreak – a sheltering row of poplar trees glowing golden in their fall colors - has been chosen as the emblem of the 107th Anniversary Charity Ball .
We call it Heart of Gold . The words symbolize the extraordinary generosity and commitment of Evelyn and Ernest Rady to our region and to the hospital that bears their name . The emblem honors their Canadian heritage .
The Heart of Gold prairie windbreak embodies the essence of safety and protection , precisely what the Crisis Stabilization Unit of Rady Children ’ s Hospital provides for children and adolescents experiencing significant mental health distress .
Helping protect these needy and vulnerable children and their families is at the very core of the 107-year tradition of philanthropy demonstrated by supporters of the Charity Ball .
