After his contract with Domino’s had finished,
Dale continued to drive and promote with a
Miniature horse team. He and wife Kandy sought
out national sponsorships to promote companies
and their products with what Dale labeled as “Safe,
clean and fun advertising!” The two continued to
traverse the country appearing in parades, fairs,
and rodeos until 2002 when Dale was injured.
His driving days were over without the use of his
left hand to hold the numerous reins required for
the multiple hitches. These days Dale and Kandy
enjoy a retired lifestyle on their Petersburg,
Tennessee farm. Still residing with them are a few
of the original hitch minis, although many of them
are quite old. Dale will always have horses and he
still has quite a bit of the harness and equipment
-much of it still in great shape. It’s easy to get lost
in the rich memories of performances past that are
happily shared by this remarkable figure.

I count myself lucky to have met such a prestigious ambassador of the Miniature horse breedeven if I was unable to shake his hand in person and offer my humble gratitude. I was pleasantly
surprised to find a thank you note from long-time breeders Ron and Sami Scheuring amongst
the clippings and photos that Dale shared with me. I was happy others felt as I do, that the
influence the Alexander’s accomplished during their lifetimes should be warmly appreciated.
Our past is a bit more colorful, thanks to the hours Dale logged, promoting not only the
celebrated Domino’s Pizza chain, but the little breed of horse that was just starting to make
its mark in the world. I, for one, am happy his positive influence can now be remembered and
woven into the history of our American Miniature Horse.
