Annual
Meeting Wrap Up
T
he history making 2016 AMHA Annual Meeting took place in Tampa,
Florida on February 18-21. As is typical of any “meeting of the minds” in an
organization, there will always be differing opinions on how to move forward.
The items set to be voted on at this meeting were of vital importance, and every
effort was made to be sure the attendees were well aware of the gravity and direction
their yay or nay vote would take them. The debated item of reinstating hardship was
widely discussed, and those in attendance will testify that the majority votes were for
opening the hardship registry, but many will also tell you they were not totally in favor
of the way it was to be implemented. Looking at the bigger
picture, members voted to allow this step to maintain
the financial solidarity of AMHA as well as to help
promote and extend the reach of the breed itself.
Although not all agreed on the procedure, the
feeling of camaraderie and support ruled the
day, helping everyone move forward with
committee agendas and ideas that were
positive and discussed openly.
The Annual Awards Banquet held on
Friday night was well attended and allowed
Honor Roll belt buckle winners their spot in
the limelight as well as a moment of applause
for each of the Overall Futurity Sires and the 2015
leading money earners. The evening was capped off with
lighthearted entertainment provided by the matron of ceremonies, Sami Scheuring
and auctioneer, Joe Kahre. The final event of the evening was an impromptu Amateur
Auction where some excellent items were sold, and $1740 was raised, funds that will
benefit the Amateur awards and activities for 2016.
