with hosting Worlds in Fort Worth. The city of Fort Worth offers an annual incentive discount to the AMHA based on the percentage of use. Additionally, our association receives funding from the Texas Grant, which goes towards awards for the World Show. These funds need to be taken into consideration when evaluating possible alternative sites. Because we were facing a deadline to renew our option with the WRMC, the World Show Committee recommended that the Board of Directors accepts the earlier dates (August 21 – September 3) for 2017. The membership has expressed several legitimate concerns regarding holding Worlds during these earlier dates, including heat and the need to possibly move Regional and qualifying periods forward. There has also been concern about stabling in the multi-purpose building. In 2017, we will be able to use the cattle barns, which have refurbished stalls, higher ceilings and better ventilation. It has also been proposed to look into using stalls in the cooler section of the multi-purpose building. Additionally, Will Rogers is constructing a new arena (by the cattle barns), and we may be able to secure a change to more desirable dates once that arena is completed. The committee understands that moving the World Show dates earlier is 2017 is not ideal, but would ask members to consider the following: our research has shown that Will Rogers currently offers AMHA the best pricing and amenities for hosting our World Show. We pay more for Regional show sites on a daily basis than we pay in Fort Worth. Stall fees at Will Rogers are the same that we pay at Regional shows, for 10 days versus 4. Looking on the bright side, horses that compete in both Worlds and Nationals might possibly be fresher for the AMHA show, the dates could benefit some families as far as school start dates in certain parts of the country, and exhibitors from the Northern regions won’t have concerns about their freshly clipped horses returning home to cold temperatures. While AMHA has a contract with Will Rogers through 2017, the committee’s focus and objectives haven’t changed. During our search process, we put AMHA on waiting lists with three facilities that met basic criteria but presently have no available dates (Tulsa, Amarillo, and Oklahoma City). It’s a huge hurdle, as many groups block dates for years in advance at various facilities. Our search will continue. In the meantime, our goal is to continue to offer a quality venue for our World Show by taking cost savings into consideration, while being very careful not to diminish the integrity of the show. We are very interested in exploring ways to improve every aspect of the World Show. We invite members to send our committee any potential sites they may be aware of, and we will check them out.
