Dianne Grossman The Carpet Girl
Inspired by her father, who worked three jobs while dreaming of being his own boss, Dianne Grossman knew from the time she was a little girl that she wanted to own her own business one day. That dream became reality in 2012, when she founded The Carpet Girl, along with years of flooring experience from her husband and her love for interior design, she began a one-on-one flooring sales consultancy.
The idea for her business came to her when she read a surprising statistic in a magazine article— although 80 % of flooring decisions are made by the female consumer, more than 80 % of flooring is sold by men. With her experience in sales and passion for interior design and the carpeting industry, it was a gap she was highly qualified to fill.
Dianne’ s vision for The Carpet Girl was to break from the traditional big-box store retail model by providing end-to-end services with a personal approach. She enjoys connecting with her customers— helping women find exactly what they want for their homes in a friendly, comfortable environment. But for her, the biggest reward of owning her own business has been showing her children that they can be anything they want.
Having come from a humble background, Dianne identifies with those who dream of a better life. Her advice to other women looking to start their own businesses would be:“ Give yourself a break— be comfortable with not always being perfect. Be clear about your goals. Be prepared to make sacrifices when balancing work life and home life. Go with your gut; you know what to do— go do it!”
