VICTOR QUIJADA Choreographer

A wide range of early performance experiences led Victor to Montreal . From the hip-hop clubs of his native Los Angeles to a performance career with internationally-acclaimed postmodern and ballet dance companies , by age 26 , Victor was recognised as a magnetic and expansive dancer .
Victor created his dance company , RUBBERBANDance Group , in 2002 . Since then , he has created over 24 short and full-length pieces both within the company structure and as commissions , and has toured internationally with his company .
With over a dozen film credits to his name , Victor has acted as choreographer , director , and dramaturge . He has collaborated with directors Micah Meisner , Mark Adam , and René-Pierre Bélanger in film and television productions , and with musicians k-os and Alexandre Désilets on music videos .
Victor ’ s Hasta La Proxima was a 2004 finalist in the American Choreography Awards , his choreography in k-os ’ s Man I Used to Be music video won at the 2005 Choreography Media Honors , and his most recent film , Gravity of Center , won Best Experimental Short at the 2012 CFC Worldwide Short Film Festival .
Victor received the Bonnie Bird North American Award and the Peter Darrell Choreography Award in 2003 , the OQAJ / RIDEAU Prize in 2009 , and a Princess Grace Awards Choreographic Fellowship in 2010 .
In 2005 he was highlighted as one of Canada ’ s hottest performance artists in the documentary series , Freedom . From 2007 to 2011 , he was an artist-in-residence at the Cinquième Salle of Place des Arts in Montreal .
