IMMERSION CLASS EXPECTATIONS Grade K Teachers The lesson content and all interaction will be taught 100% in the target language (TL*). Teachers will use a combination of English and the TL during the first few days of staggered entrance. After that time, the teacher will use a variety of strategies to insure that the students understand and learn the concepts and vocabulary. At least 60-min. per day in teaching TLA (Target Language Arts...insert Spanish, Mandarin or French for Target) 1ST The lesson content and all interaction will be taught 100% in the TL. 75-min. per day in teaching of TLA. Students From August until December, students are allowed to respond in English but encouraged to respond in the TL. From January until the end of the year, more emphasis is placed on responding in the TL. Developing listening comprehension is the primary goal for Kindergarten. However, by the end of the year, the children are encouraged and expected to begin responding in the target language. From August until December, the teacher accepts the answers to be given in English if it is new material. If the material is known, using the TL is a must! From January until the end of the year, the students will RESPOND in the TL. 2ND The lesson content and all interaction will be taught 100% in the TL. 75-min. per day in teaching of TLA. 3RD – 5TH The lesson content and all interaction will be taught 100% in the TL. 75- min. per day in teaching of TL. Students are expected to RESPOND in the TL.
