Summer ’ s packed with action – nobody ' s bored
KEEPING ACTIVE AND IN TOUCH WITH OUR FELLOWSHIP
Welcome back fellow hunting , fishing and riding aficionados to our summer edition of FISH , HUNT and RIDE magazine .
We here at FHR strive to provide the best possible coverage of these time-honoured activities through the four seasons of the year , and summer is a fine example .
The warmer months are about connecting with our outdoor brethren and sisterhood while exploring the wonderful regions Quebec and Ontario have to offer . Our FHR writing team have done just that , visiting lodges and the wild and wonderful locales of nature . Columnist Doug Phillips paid a visit to Olive the Lake Lodge in the Marten River area of Northern Ontario , while our celebrity columnist “ Uncle ” Ted Nugent pursued black bears in Wawa . Ted shares his insight – at full volume , as is his custom – on whitetail food plots in this issue as well .
Amanda Lynn Mayhew also celebrated the return of the spring bear season in Northern Ontario , in preparation for her new television show coming to Wild TV . We congratulate Amanda Lynn and wish her luck with this project .
Other FHR team members could be found at kayak club meetings , fishing tournaments or paddling the rivers like Don Wilcox and Jordan Durocher , or like Allen Macartney , scanning the information superhighway in search of the useful sportsmen sites .
Brian Houle , on the other hand , got a bit more introspective this spring , delving into the philosophical side of hunting , and what it means to conservationists . Sheila Ascroft was busy researching a new-style bicycle which lends itself perfectly to hunting ; and fly-fisher extraordinaire Grant Hopkins spent a portion of the early season honing his skills in the Yukon . Grant has an awesome Ottawa River flyfishing guide this issue . Our other “ Grant ,” from the Bailey family , was scouting the Ottawa River from both sides , and has drawn up a concise list of rules and regs for both provinces .
Columnist Ed Hand fulfilled a lifelong dream with an interview with fishing legend , Mr . In-Fisherman himself – Al Lindner . ATV Guru Dave Baker was attending every conceivable ATV event in Eastern Ontario while Lawrence Gunther targeted urban angling hotspots a stones throw from Parliament Hill . While the rest of the team was out and about , I had the opportunity of field-testing some pretty cool gear and gadgets which I share with you this issue .
We also welcome FHR guest columnist from Sherbrooke Que ., Mark Stiffel . Mark is a trout angler who knows the Eastern Townships ’ fabled Massawippi and Memphrémagog lakes like the back of his hand .
Last , but certainly not least , we welcome veteran outdoor writer Justin Hoffman and local fishing guru Jamie Pistilli to the FHR writing team . Justin has years of writing experience a solid skill-set in both fishing and hunting , while Jamie is a professional fishing guide and television personality with a massive following .
We hope to see you this summer at one of the many events in our region that do just that – share our passion . Bring a copy of FHR with you as a sure-fire way to spread the good word . Yours in the great outdoors ,
