Breckenridge fishing lure empire started at home ACQUISITIONS FOLLOWED OVER THE YEARS Brecks Fishing Tackle Company has a long and prestigious history in this country. Founder George Breckenridge, who settled in Quebec’s Eastern Townships, spent much of his younger years fishing the plethora of lakes and rivers in the region. In 1947, he started his lure company with his wife Maude, and they manufactured and marketed lures right from their home. George was involved in a number of businesses. A rainwear manufacturing plant, golf courses, a marina, fishing camps in the subarctic and fox fur farming were all part of his career.  As JEFF his first love was fishing, he thought why not forge a career than MORRISON selling something close to his heart. In 1950 he obtained exclusive Canadian rights to Mepps lures. The Brecks company also made Dartee and Sparky spoons. In 1964, his son David took over the company, it continued to expand and in 1983 David got the rights to Mister Twister and Ma
