ANDREW JOHN MILNE & CHANTAL DUPAS OMMATIDIA MURALIS To April 16: The ODD Gallery is pleased to present Ommatidia Muralis, the first collaborative installation by Winnipeg visual artists Andrew John Milne and Chantal Dupas. Dupas is the current artist-in-residence at the University of Manitoba’s botany lab, the Belamonte Laboratory. She makes tinted cross-sections of houseplants and layers them onto slides in order to create “microscopic paintings.” Instead of presenting these through a typical microscope, Milne builds extravagantly designed analog wooden viewing machines. His machines offer augmented views of reality, fracturing and multiplying Dupas' personalized scientific images. Ommatidia Muralis is a hybridization of two distinct artistic practices. The work combines high-end, cutting-edge digital technologies and defunct analog designs, opening thoughtful questions Extended hours for DCISFF about how each viewing apparatus shapes our knowledge. Sunday noon - 4pm Gallery Hours Mon - Fri: 10am - 5pm Sat: noon - 5pm Bios: Chantal Dupas holds a BFA from the University of Nova Scotia and has studied at several institutions including the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
