Prestonwood’s 34th Annual Rotary Club Appreciation Award On Wednesday, October 19, 2016, the Prestonwood Rotary Club hosted their Annual Dallas Police Appreciation Luncheon and Award Ceremony at the Prestonwood Country Club. The Rotary Club recognized three Dallas police officers for their service, hard work and dedication to the City of Dallas. During the luncheon, the Rotary Club made a surprise check donation to the Assist the Officer Foundation for the families of the fallen officers from the July 7th attack in Downtown Dallas. On behalf of the Dallas Police Department, we want to say “Thank You” to the Prestonwood Rotary Club for the generous donation. Also, we would like to congratulate Sergeant Edward Tena, Senior Corporal Justin Bowen and Officer Frank (Timbo) Duncan for being the honoree’s of this year’s award ceremony. ZAK Products Unveils Custom Race Car To Honor Fallen Officers Vic Keller, Founder and CEO of ZAK Product, invited Dallas police officers and family members of the fallen officers from the July 7th tragedy to be present during a ceremony unveiling the NASCAR honoring fallen officers. Mr. Keller spoke on how heavy his heart felt during the downtown attack, and how that feeling lead him to show his support for law enforcement in his own special way. He had an idea to design a race car honoring all of the Dallas officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. However, Keller was unsure how people may receive the idea of a Dallas Cruiser driving 200 mph on the race track and making hard left turns, especially since speeding is a “No, No” with police officers. When he received a positive response and was given the go ahead, Keller was shocked and ecstatic at the same time. Months later, the wrap was designed and placed on the race car and is now ready to be driven. The vehicle will be driven by BK’s Racing, Matt DiBendetto this Sunday, November 6, 2016, at the Texas Motor Speedway’s AAA Texas 500. Dallas Police Interim Chief Pughes was present during the unveiling and gave remarks. Chief Pughes stated: “People ask us all the time how we’re doing. Moving forward is tough and we’re not beyond it yet. But events like this and encouragement and support from the community make our jobs more rewarding. It helps motivate our officers to get out there and take risks to make sure our city is safe. I could not be more proud of our officers and I want to thank ZAK Products for paying tribute.” On behalf of the Dallas Police Department, we say Thank You ZAK Products and Vic Keller for honoring our fallen officers. We truly appreciate you and your thoughtful recognition. 43 44
