Michael Smith
Michael joined the Dallas Police Department in 1989 and was
part of Academy Class 217. Having previously worked as an
Army Ranger prepared him for his career in law enforcement
where he excelled and received 85 commendations and
awards, including a Cop’s Cop Award from the Dallas Police
Association. Michael worked at Love Field and three patrol
stations: Southeast, Central and North Central Division during
his tenure with the department. Promoting to Sergeant in 2000,
Mike was an important part of the department for over 27 years.
Along with serving the public, he also dedicated his life to
working with at-risk youth.
Outside of the department, Michael enjoyed racquetball, ping
pong and playing on the Wii with his youngest daughter Caroline.
He also enjoyed landscaping and planting Gerber Daisies with
his daughters Victoria and Caroline.

Michael Kroll
Mike came from a large extended family in Detroit, Michigan.
He grew up playing all sports, especially basketball where he
excelled. Mike graduated from East Long Meadow High School
in Massachusetts in 1994 and later received his degree in
Criminal Justice from Wayne County Community College and
worked at the Wayne County Jail from 2002 – 2007.
To realize his dream of becoming a police officer and pursue
his goal of serving others, Mike left his family and moved to
Dallas in 2007 to become a Dallas Police officer. He was part
of Academy Class 301 and spent his eight year career in Patrol.
Michael received 18 commendations and awards including a
Certificate of Merit during his time with the department. Working
at the Southeast, Southwest, Northwest, Northeast and South
Central Patrol stations, he was a dedicated law enforcement
officer who lived out the oath he swore to “serve and protect.”
