The graduates completed a 12 meeting academy program at the Dallas Police In-Service Academy. During the academy, the class members were educated about various units within the police department, such as the Communication Division, Gang Unit, Financial Crimes, Human Trafficking, Family Violence, Canine, Neighborhood Police Officers, and a variety of other units and programs within the department. The CPA is offered twice a year, in both English and Spanish. National Night Out was established in 1984 and is a yearly event designed to build and strengthen the relationships between police officers and the communities they serve. It’s held on the first Tuesday in October in neighborhoods and communities across Texas, whereas the other 49 states participate on the first Tuesday in August. National Night Out encourages neighbors and community members to come together with police officers through block parties, cookouts, and safety demonstrations. 19 20
