UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy was used to identify
the adsorbed safranin amount onto the graphene oxide
paper. The standard safranin solutions with various
concentrations were prepared and their spectra were
taken as seen in Fig. 10. To calculate the non-adsorbed
amount of safranin, spectrum of safranin solution after
a three-day treatment with graphene oxide paper was
also formed and compared with standard solutions
(Fig. 11). This value was subtracted from 5.0x10 -5 M
(starting concentration of safranin solution) to calculate
the adsorbed amount of safranin onto graphene oxide
paper.
Calculation:
for graphene paper with surface area of about 36 cm2
Conclusion: Prepared 36 cm 2 of graphene oxide paper
adsorbed 90.28% of safranin from water. So, this
method can be offered as a beneficial approach for
environment protection from factory pollutions.
MOLE DAY REFLECTIONS
Today is “The Mole Day”. Firstly, we have learned the
definition of mole, the inventor of it, and the places
that are used. Then, we performed some activities
about chemistry. For example, Mr. Ozcan passed some
sheets out to enhance our reading skills. We answered
the questions on the sheet, and we shared our answers
with our class to check them. After that, we listened to
a song about Atomic Theory, and we had an activity
about this song. In our point of view, the activity has
some benefits on us to develop our listening skills.
As prep students, we went to the meeting room for
Kahoot game. The game made of 2 separate parts.
The first part of it was testing our knowledge about
chemistry. The second part of it was about general
science knowledge. Next, we did puzzle activity about
chemistry again. By this activity, I have learned new
words.
All activities and the Kahoot activity were beneficial
and enjoyable for me. I recommended that “The Mole
Day” should be celebrated by next prep students.

When we first learned we have six period chemistry, we
thought it will be boring, but then we came to school
and were suprised because it was fun.
Our subject was Mole Day. In the first lesson we watched
some videos and listened to a song about it. After
we learned some information, we read a text called
“Avogardo” and answered some questions according
to the text. In our opinion, they were all beneficial
information for us.
In the third period, we made a small competition among
the other prep classes. It was about our chemistry
lessons’ topics and it was challenging. We had an
excellent time there.
In the last two periods of the day, we came back our
classes and made a puzzle about chemistry.
Mole Day was terrific for us. Our favourite one was the
competition.
We love chemistry!
