Using only a few sheets of paper and 1m of tape, the
winning designs were able to support and carry well over
1500g of mass before finally succumbing to the forces of
nature (gravity !).
The final presentation of the Rube Goldberg machines
went by with great success and a day was spent setting
up, testing, experimenting and presenting fascinating
machines.
Rube Goldberg Machines 2016
The simple task of “popping a balloon” turned out to be
a whole lot more fun than any of the Prep students had
anticipated.
Doing it with a science-theme in mind, introduced
practical hands-on activities that many students had
never before been required to use, opening the doors to
a whole new world of creative exploration and discovery.
With team-work and collaborative problem solving in
mind, groups came together and brainstormed possible
solutions, experimented with available material, and
many surfed the internet for hours looking for just the
right motivation, or for that special “ah-ha” moment
when they realized that anything is possible if you put
your mind to it…
From the amazed and excited expressions of many of
the science teachers that were eager to observe these
fascinating creations, it was clear that this year’s prep
students outperformed many of the previous groups
with their creative designs and especially with their final
presentations.
Congratulations to all the Prep students of 2015-2016
with their amazing contraptions that made BELS proud…!
