ARTS AND CRAFTS CLUB
The Arts and Crafts Club had an exciting year as we experimented
with all types of hand-made items. Most of our club was made
up of Grade 9 and Grade 10 students, with a few Prep girls
joining now and then.
We began the year by making paper flower cards for every
teacher on the faculty, and we gave them to the teachers on
Teachers’ Day in November. The card folds closed, but when
you open it, the flowers pop up.
We folded colorful paper strips along with old sheet music to
make stars. We also used the sheet music to make a wreath.
The old sheet music gave it an antique look.
Using bright colors and shaving crème, we colored eggs. We
mixed the colors and the shaving crème and spread it onto the
eggs. When they dried in the morning, we washed them and
enjoyed their marbled colors.
Using fondant, we learned to make flowers and together we
decorated a cake. Once the decorations were complete, we
enjoyed eating our production!
We learned precision cutting of paper to make pop-up cards.
Once again, the card folds flat but when you open it, you see a
mini architectural wonder.
Using string, flour, water and balloons, we made string baskets
to decorate and hang. We dipped string into flower and water
and wrapped it around a balloon. After the string had dried,
we popped the balloon and had these beautiful open balls of
string.
Lastly, we made a Mexican piñata using paper mache. This
time we dipped strips of newspaper into flour and water, and
then put them onto a balloon. When it was dry, we popped the
balloon and filled the piñata with candy. We plan to break it
on the last day of school, scattering the candies for all to share!
