CS BRIDGE IN KOÇ UNIVERSITY
Last I summer I attended the CS Bridge program which
was held at Koç University in İstanbul. It was a 10 day
program that was basically an introduction to computer
programming for high school students. Each day we
had lectures from Chris Piech who is a professor at the
Standford University and after the lectures, we were
given some tasks to apply what we learnt from that
day’s lecture. Until 3:00pm we had those sessions and
after 3:00pm we were completely free. Even though
somedays we had homework, we still had a lot of time
to have fun. During the program I learnt the basics of the
programming language “Java”. We were working under
the supervision of Koç Univetsity’s computer science
students during the sessions, so whenever we got stuck
on a problem we asked them to help us. I know that the
program might seem difficult due to its intense schedule
(from 8:00am to 3:00pm) but the professor made sure
that everyone could follow up. He said at the beginning
of the program “If you are able to turn on a computer,
then you have all the requirements to finish this
program” which comforted most of the students who
had doubts about finishing the program. The best part
about the CS Bridge program was the cozy atmosphere
at the Koç University. My friends and I enjoyed the
beautiful view of Koç University a lot during our break
times. This program was a great oppurtunity for me to
both learn about computer science and relieve some
stress just after IGCSE exams.
