WVUSD: 2016/2017 Year-End Results
Preface
Over the past four years, and following a thorough data gathering process, the Walnut Valley
Unified School District Superintendent, Board of Trustees, and staff have established clear
areas of focus for the District that advance educational excellence and increase opportunities
for all students. In turn, Cabinet and staff have been charged with the responsibility of further
developing and implementing these areas of focus through specific goals and objectives, as
well as reporting the progress made in reaching these goals at our annual Year-End Review.
During the past year (and for the fourth consecutive year), the Walnut Valley Unified School
District concentrated on four areas of focus, which all directly and positively influence our
overarching Mission … “KIDS FIRST – Every Student, Every Day.” These focus areas are
listed below with the corresponding goal for easy reference.
• Student Achievement – Prepare all students with a rigorous, engaging, and
comprehensive K-12 instructional program to meet the high expectations of College and
Career Readiness and empower students to become contributing global citizens.
• Strengthening Relationships – Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships based
upon trust, respect, communication, and collaboration among colleagues, students,
parents, and community members.
• Fiscal Stability – No organization can function at a high level without a sound
institutional infrastructure and financial controls. For Walnut Valley, this includes not
only ensuring the fiscal health of the District, but also the closely related activities of
Purchasing, Facilities, Transportation, and Nutrition Services. In light of the increasing
uncertainty, WVUSD must ensure it is positioned to deliver efficient, responsive, and
capable services to our students and staff for years to come.
• Leadership Development – Develop and expand leadership capacity throughout the
organization.
The following WVUSD: 2016/2017 Year-End Results publication reflects the diligent efforts of
staff to provide a status report to the Board of Trustees and community on the District’s
continual efforts in meeting the goals and accompanying objectives in each of the areas of
focus. Compliments to the Board of Trustees and all Leadership Team members for their input,
reflections, and assessment of this past year. The report includes a brief introduction, a
detailed summary focused on each of the goals, supporting objectives, and recommendations
for future focus.
Commendations to our Leadership Team for both their contributions and participation in a very
successful school year. Cabinet, division directors, and our site administrators would like to
express our sincere appreciation for the Board’s guidance, collaboration, and support. We
believe that through your leadership we have, once again, crafted a sound monitoring practice
designed to provide a clear direction and mutual vision for the future of the Walnut Valley
Unified School District.
