None other than the venerated Itzhak Perlman performs one of his signature concerti, the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. Plus, BSYO and OrchKids appear in a special rendition of “Ode to Joy!” Join us for this extraordinary program celebrating the artistry, history and future of your BSO. ITZHAK PERLMAN BSO LATE NIGHT New this season on five Friday evenings marked with the symbol, join us in the lobby of the Meyerhoff for a post-concert performance by select guest artists. Pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet (joined by soprano Julia Bullock) and Gabriela Montero, violinist Ray Chen, the St. Lawrence String Quartet and the University of Maryland Concert Choir all reveal a different side of their artistry in intimate surroundings. COLE Marked with the symbol, look out for the remaining five miniature Centennial Celebration Commissions still to be performed from the 10-work project initiated in early 2016. These concerts will each include the premiere of an exciting new work inspired by a subject sourced from members of the public. The five composers are the youngest ever Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw, T.J. Cole, Lori Laitman, Jonathan Leshnoff and Christopher Theofanidis. Commissioned for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Marin Alsop by Classical Movements, Inc. as part of the Eric Daniel Helms New Music Program.
