four notes, the BSO initiates its season-long
exploration of Beethoven with the heroic
Symphony No. 5. Rising star Julia Bullock opens
the program with Villa-Lobos’ haunting and
lyrical Brazilian twist on Bach, and the orchestra’s
dear friend Jean-Yves Thibaudet dazzles with
Gershwin’s jazzy, bluesy piano concerto.
