42 gram history that two Falcons have been named All-Americans in the same season.
This is the second time for Wood to receive this honor with the first coming after last season.
Wood, a Spanish Fort, Ala. native, ended the 2017 season with a 73.96 stroke average and helped lead Montevallo to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Division II South Super regional and finished in sixth place in the individual standings at the same event.
All season long Wood was one of the top golfers in the Peach Belt Conference. Wood had eight top-10 finishes this season, including five finishes in the top-five. She also won the individual title at the LeeAnn Noble Memorial earlier this season.
Wood was also named to the All-South Region team by the WGCA this season.
Eddy receives All-American honors for the second time in her career after receiving the same honor following her sophomore season with the Falcons.
The Hartselle, Ala. native had a 74.62 stroke average throughout the season and played an instrumental part in the Falcons’ success this year. Eddy wrapped up her senior season with a 36th place finish at the NCAA Division II South Super Regional.
Eddy finished in the top-10 in eight tournaments this season, five of which were in the top-five finishes.
Eddy also found herself at the top of the leaderboard twice this past year that included winning the Peach Belt Conference individual title.
Three PBC Women’ s Golf Teams, One Individual Selected for NCAA Women’ s Golf
INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Three PBC women’ s golf teams and one individual learned on Monday that their 2017 seasons will continue as they were selected to play in the NCAA South Super Regional in Elgin, S. C. Montevallo, Flagler and Armstrong State will be among the 12 teams selected to the tournament, which will be played May 8-10 at the Members Club at Woodcreek and hosted by Newberry College. UNC Pembroke’ s Ashlii Thompson was selected to play as an individual.
The PBC set a league record in 2016 by sending three teams to the NCAA Tournament and met that number again this year. Prior to that, the league had never sent more than two teams.
Montevallo is the eighth seed in the regional, the highest seed for any PBC team. The Falcons are ranked 17th in the latest Golfstat Relative Ranking and have the lowest team stroke average in the PBC at 302.3. The Falcons won two events during the regular season and were second at the PBC Championships. UM has finished outside of the top four only twice in 10 events this year. two victories on the season. Elaine Wood won once and has seven top 10s. Wood and Eddy are ranked first and second in the PBC in stroke average. Montevallo makes their second straight NCAA appearance. Flagler is the 11th seed in the NCAA Super Regional but are the highest-ranked PBC team in the Golfstat Ranking at # 15. The Saints won the 2017 PBC Championship, shooting a team 294 in the final round, the sixth-lowest team round by any school this season. Lara Ardler has a victory and three top-10s this year and is third in the PBC in stroke average while Linn Weber is fifth in stroke average with four top-10s. Flagler reaches the NCAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row and fifth overall, the most by any PBC team.
Armstrong State is ranked 19th in the Golfstat rankings and are third in the PBC in team stroke average. The Pirates fight on with their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last five years. Sophie Bargeron has a tournament win and two top-five finishes this year while Nikita Arjun has four top-10s. The players are ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, in the PBC in stroke average.
Thompson, a three-time All-Peach Belt Conference( PBC) selection, led the Black & Gold and ranks fourth in the PBC with a 75.5 stroke average this season. The UNCP career leader for most rounds played, Thompson has carded six rounds at or under par in 2016-17 and hauled in four top-five finishes and eight finishes in the top 20. She makes her third NCAA Tournament appearance.
