Delhommelle, a native of Rennes, France, was selected after leading Lander with eight assists and recording seven goals on the season. Delhommelle was twice tabbed as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, scoring in three consecutive road matches against Erskine, Wingate and Clayton State. The first-team All-PBC selection scored four of his seven goals in the postseason, netting two in a PBC Tournament semifinal win over Flagler.
He is the first Lander player to be named an All-American since Clement Simonin in 2012.
YHC’ s Varnhorn Named CoSIDA Academic All-American
AUSTIN, Texas | Young Harris College’ s Ramin Varnhorn has been named to the Division II Academic All-America ® Men’ s Soccer Third Team as selected by CoSIDA( College Sports Information Directors of America).
Varnhorn is the 16th Mountain Lion since 2011 to be named to a CoSIDA Academic All-America ® team and he is also the fourth different men’ s soccer student-athlete to be selected to one of the national teams. Wesley Barnard was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ® team in 2011 and 2012 while Ilija Ilic was selected in 2013 and 2014 and Lewis Hilton was chosen in 2015. He is the eighth PBC men’ s soccer player to ever be honored with the award.
The CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America ® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 Division II Academic All-America ® teams program.
Varhorn, a 6-foot-3 junior midfielder from Bielefeld, Germany, has a 3.98 cumulative grade point average as a business and public policy major. He is third on the team with eight goals and in scoring with 19 points.
Varnhorn was named the PBC Player of the Week earlier this season after scoring back-to-back match-winning goals against Limestone College and Carson-Newman University. Varnhorn, who was also named to the PBC All-Academic Team this season, was one of five students to represent YHC at the Harvard National Model United Nations conference in Boston last spring.
