MILLEDGEVILLE, GA – Flagler College placed four runners in the top 15 and won the 2016 PBC Men’ s Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning in Milledgeville. The title is the first in men’ s cross country for the Saints, who held off second-place Montevallo and third-place Augusta University. Flagler finished the event with 56 points.
Augusta and UNC Pembroke were tied with 92 points apiece in third place, but Augusta claimed the spot on their own with the NCAA tiebreaker.
Young Harris’ Tim Asis won the PBC Individual Championship, covering the 8k course at the Council Farm in 24:42.6. That is the 10th-fastest time ever run in a PBC Championship event. The sophomore from Eldoret, Kenya, was 10 seconds ahead of Armstrong State’ s Henning Schein. Montevallo’ s Donny Barnes was third with the Augsuta duo of Dylan Forester and Daniel Broadhead finishing fourth and fifth. The top 15 runners were named PBC All-Conference. Flagler’ s Kray Hubner finished seventh overall and was the first freshman to cross the line and earned PBC Freshman of the Year honors. Hubner ran the event in 25:33.6 and became the first Saint to be named the Freshman of the Year since Corey Mundy in 2011.
