Montevallo Finishes 23rd at NCAA Women’s Cross
Country National Championship
SAINT LEO, Fla. – The University of Montevallo women’s cross
country team finished 23rd in team standings Nov. 19 in the NCAA
Division II National Championship on the Abbey Course.
Also competing as an individual was Georgia College’s Catherine
Yost. Yost finished 105th in the 6K race, crossing the line in 22:24,
good for second-best in school history to a record she set at the
NCAA Southeast Regional Nov. 5.
While finishing 105th among the best 240 runners in the coun-
try is impressive enough, Yost also made her mark on GC History
this year. She became the first two-time All-Southeast Region
honoree and the first Bobcat to ever qualify to run at the NCAA
Championships as part of an amazing junior season. Yost broke
both the 6K and 5K records for the school this year as well. The
Bobcat junior finished seventh among Southeast Region runners
in today’s action, and third among Peach Belt Conference (PBC)
harriers.
Making their third consecutive appearance in the National
Championship, the nationally-ranked Falcons were led by junior
Katie Nelson, the Peach Belt Conference Runner of the Year.
Nelson finished 79th overall in individual standings with her
time of 22:08.2. Nelson was running as high as 15th overall at the
1.3K split in the race for the Falcons, who are ranked No. 18 nation-
ally in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country
Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II poll.
