Doily Webs: An interactive, yarn-bombing inspired installation
It’s early on a summer morning. You are walking down a path,
perhaps to the outhouse. Shiver – you break through a spider’s
web. We invite you to join us in imitating spiders, creating webs
connecting to and based around doilies, connecting the past to the
present, connecting to the art of women of previous generations.
After all, spiders are the original yarn bombers. We’ll be using a
simple chain stitch that anyone can do – if you don’t know how to
do it, we’ll tech you.
Friday 3:00pm – 5:00pm
Installation of wall tent near Front St. gazebo
Saturday 11:00am – 5:00pm
Doily Webs interactive workshop at the Front St. Gazebo. Drop by
and take part in crocheting webs. Bring handmade lace doilies you
may have at the back of your drawers, if you have them, though we
have lots. We will teach whoever is interested a basic chain stitch and
prepare doilies to be installed as webs, perhaps start installing some.
Sunday 5:00am – 8:00am
Nicole and whoever else shows up will create and install webs in the
wall tent frame and in the trees along the dike
11:00am – 3:00pm
Join Jessica to continue the installation (Front St. gazebo)
3:00pm
Guided tour of installation & artist talk (Meet at Front St. Gazebo)
