TWO MIRACLES IN ONE
THANKS TO PHYSICIAN-GUIDED
ROBOTIC SURGERY
In 2011, Courtney Russell was struggling to conceive a child, but she soon found herself
struggling with an even bigger challenge: stage 2 ovarian cancer.
Knowing that surgery was a likely course of treatment, Courtney sought the expertise of Peter
Lim, MD, FACOG, Medical Director of Renown Institute for Robotic Surgery, and a regional
leader in the use of the da Vinci Robotic Surgery System.

Typically a patient with this diagnosis would undergo a hysterectomy, ending any hope of future
pregnancy. However, knowing how badly Courtney wanted a family, Dr. Lim went the extra mile and
consulted with colleagues around the world to devise a meticulous new approach for her surgery.

Taking full advantage of da Vinci’s less invasive, highly precise robotic instruments, Dr. Lim was able to
perform a partial hysterectomy, removing the cancer and preserving 80 percent of one of Courtney’s
ovaries. Not only had Dr. Lim saved Courtney’s life, he had also saved her ability to bring a new life into
this world.
ON JULY 4, 2014, COURTNEY AND HER HUSBAND, DUSTIN, WELCOMED
BABY BRODY INTO THEIR HEALTHY AND VERY GRATEFUL FAMILY.
