Vermilion Bay Vermilion Bay is nestled on the shores of famous Eagle Lake and is located at the junction of the Trans-Canada and Highway 105 which leads north to Ear Falls and Red Lake. Vermilion Bay is home to several resorts and lodges on Eagle Lake and other surrounding lakes. Eagle Lake holds numerous species of fish, including walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, lake trout and muskie. Highway 647 will take you north of Vermilion Bay to waterways such as the famous Indian Lake Chain which connects 10 other lakes. The chain is famous for its plentiful and exciting fishing for walleye, pike, muskie, lake trout and bass. Vermilion Bay is also a starting point for many fly-in lodges and outposts. Blue Lake Provincial Park, with 196 camping sites, is sandwiched between two lakes, Blue and Langton. Between the two bodies of water is an easy four-kilometre walk along the Rock Point hiking trail, the longest of three marked paths. Blue Lake is 27 meters deep in spots and the water is so clear you can see the bottom at a depth of six meters. Travel by boat to the site of the soapstone quarry on Eagle Lake, or visit Post Park in Eagle River, the site of a former Hudson Bay Post and Northwest Fur Trading Post. Another must-see location is Pine Tree Park in Vermilion Bay. It is located at the foot of Bay Street adjacent to the Government dock and boat launch on the shores of Eagle Lake. The Park has a magnificent White Pine Log Pavilion, washrooms, a picnic area with tables, granite benches, BBQs and hiking trails. Along Highway 17 is the very visible Fort Vermilion. Play a round of mini-golf, check out the Fort and explore the walking trails around it or stop for a bite at one of the local restaurants.
