Watersports
From paddleboarding to wakeboarding to
tubing, having 70,000 freshwater lakes
and rivers makes it easy to be a
watersports paradise! All this water makes
Sunset Country a boater’s dream and
spending time on the lake with your family
is probably one of the most memorable
things you’ll take back home with you.
Ride the waves and meander through
undiscovered channels where each island
represents another opportunity for
discovery. Who knows, when you turn the
corner there may be a pristine sand beach
sitting there just waiting for you.
Sailing is popular in Dryden, Fort Frances,
and on Lake of the Woods. Many
windsurfers can be seen out on Wabigoon
Lake during the summer. In 2013, Smooth
Sailing started parasailing adventures over
beautiful Lake of the Woods. What a way
to see the lake!
So if you love the water and all the
recreational opportunities it provides then
make Sunset Country your next vacation
destination. We guarantee you won’t be
disappointed! Many places rent or sell
equipment such as paddleboards, kayaks,
wakeboards, and motorboats.
Tubing never gets old!
Golfing
With some of the most picturesque golf
courses in Northern Ontario, Sunset
Country is a great place to play a few
rounds while on your vacation. In fact, you
could make your entire time visiting a golf
vacation if you wanted to. Across the
region are a selection of 9 and 18 hole golf
courses including the most northerly
course in Ontario at Red Lake.
Most courses open up shortly after the
snow melts in the spring and close just
before the snow flies in the fall. What’s

unique about many of our courses is the
fact they are carved right out of the boreal
forest and it’s not uncommon to have
specific holes that are lined on either side
with granite outcrops. This can help with
those wayward slices or hook since when
the ball hits the rock, it often bounces back
into the middle of H
