UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA The University of Nebraska was chartered by the Nebraska Legislature in 1869 as the state’s public university and land-grant institution. Founded in Lincoln, the University of Nebraska was expanded in 1968 into a state educational system now comprising four campuses under the guidance of a Board of Regents and a central administration. Nebraska, which joined the Big Ten Conference in 2011, is a member of the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, a consortium of Big Ten universities and the University of Chicago, which has generated unique opportunities for students and faculty by sharing expertise, leveraging resources and collaborating on programs.
