Riverside Tree
A Tree With Fruit
Janet Huallpa
The difficult and harsh childhood brought physical
weaknesses and when she felt the pain in her
stomach and went to a hospital for a check-up,
the doctors had to perform a resection of the gall
bladder. A second operation is pending for January
of 2016.
However, instead of taking care of her physical
condition, she serves the church as the Sunday
School director and a teacher for 10-12 years old
kids. She also works as the assistant to the church
administrator. In addition, she has to help out her
mother, Pastor Isidora Huarca with translating from
Quechua language into Spanish at the [Solomon’s
Gate Church] where her mother pastors.
She goes to a small village called ‘Choqohuaylla’
Sunday afternoons by riding 30 minutes of bus
and 30 more minutes walking in order to share the
gospel of Christ to the children. There, with her
whole effort, she teaches the Bible and praises to 25
children who wait for her to come. On the way back
home, she is totally exhausted.
This is the story of Janet Huallpa who was born as
the youngest daughter to a poor pastor’s family.
This year, she is 21 years old.
In order to take care of the start-up church in the
poor village, her mother spent more time outside
than staying at home. Until just a few years ago,
her father lived far away because he opposed and
persecuted his wife’s spiritual life. There was no way
for her mother to take care of the family alone and
meet all the needs of her children. The result was
the physical sickness for Janet.
The mother started to serve as a pastor few years
ago and the father came back to the family by the
amazing grace of God. Sometime later, even the
26
HHK World Mission Center
father became filled with the Holy Spirit and recently
he became the strongest partner to her mother in the
ministry.
But, Janet probably spent a lonely teenager’s life
because growing up as the youngest daughter in a
poor pastor’s family, she would be the last person to
receive the parents’ love and concern.
However, Janet always lived in the grace of God.
She became a mature young lady who is content with
God alone and gives thanks to God as she lives in the
love of God and being filled with the love of God.
Janet is also excelling academically in college as she is
majoring in English. She was elected to represent her
major at her college and works as an unpaid intern.
In the beginning of this year, she was selected as
a recipient of the scholarship from the [Riverside
Tree] program at the HanHeeKim World Mission
Center. Janet expresses much thanks as she is now
able to study and do God’s works wholeheartedly
without worries for the tuition. “The Lord knows
my weaknesses, but He always gives me new strength
and the Lord is with me, therefore, I am not afraid.
Better yet, I could be competent and give my best to
do the works of God with joy.”
How beautiful is the confession of a 21 year old
young woman! But we would like to pray for Janet
who often has to go through the pain from physical
illness. Rather than concentrating on her body, she
plans to share the gospel of Christ to 360 students at
her college and train the church youth to participate
in the local jail missions.
Here is a riverside tree that bears the fruits of the
gospel. We pray that Janet will be completely free
from the sicknesses and become the communicator
of love of good news .
