What is Thread? Thread uses a“ family‐style” approach to foster the transformation of both underperforming high school students and university‐based Volunteers into self‐motivated, resourceful, and socially aware leaders committed to a higher purpose of their own.
My summer experience with Thread was amazing and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity with the help of CIIP. As a volunteer with Thread for nearly 4 years, I have had the chance to meet wonderful people, including a dedicated staff and supportive volunteers. The daily interactions I have with students and the ability to form life‐long relationships has been the BEST part of my experience with the organization. As a Thread intern, I was able to work side‐by‐side with an amazing staff and a fellow intern to ensure that our students were employed and / or enrolled in summer school. As a team, we were able to provide our students with opportunities that equipped them with skills and knowledge they can take with them as they continue on their academic and professional journeys. The highlight of my summer was helping one of our students graduate from high school. For many of us, this seems like a simple task, but this student has faced so much adversity in his short life, including a difficult home life and incarceration. Despite all the challenges, he was able to preserver and is now a high school graduate! To be a part of such a large and special event in this young man ' s life is something I will never forgot. This is just one of many stories and every day I was able to work with students, some I have worked with for years and some I have worked with for just a few days, but it was nothing short of wonderful every time. I have learned so much from each and every one of them and I am so thankful that Thread and CIIP allowed me to make an even greater impact on Baltimore City and our future generation. Thank you! ‐Desiree
