In 2015, SAMHSA engaged national event co-hosts whose missions align closely with the goals of Awareness Day. They included: ‹‹ American Psychiatric Association/American Psychiatric Foundation —— The American Psychiatric Association is the world’s largest psychiatric organization. Its member physicians work together to ensure humane care and effective treatment for all persons with mental disorders. INTEGRATING NEW COLLABORATORS FOR A STRONGER MESSAGE Each year, the Awareness Day national event is honored by the addition of new collaborators. Some of them SAMHSA seeks; some of them seek us. No matter the route to cooperation, we know that our messages about mental health are stronger when they are delivered together. —— The American Psychiatric Foundation has a mission of advancing mental health, overcoming mental illness, and eliminating stigma. ‹‹ The Jed Foundation has, over the last 15 years, emerged as the leader in protecting the emotional health of America’s 21 million college students. Their award-winning programs are changing the way campuses, communities, and families promote mental health and prevent suicide. ‹‹ The Clinton Foundation’s Clinton Health Matters Initiative works to improve the health and well-being of all people by activating individuals, communities, and organizations to make meaningful contributions to the health of others. SAMHSA also enjoyed a new media collaboration with WRC-TV (NBC-4 Washington). NBC news anchor Doreen Gentzler, the face of NBC-4’s special project “Changing Minds,” served as emcee of the Awareness Day national event, and the station helped promote Awareness Day and its message through its website, social media, and other digital platforms. It also broadcasted a 30-second SAMHSA public service announcement (PSA). OPPOSITE PAGE (Left to right): John MacPhee, Executive Director/CEO, The Jed Foundation; Pamela S.
