WORLD SOIL DAY: CONNECTING WITH NATURE
BY “DADAŞ” FARMER FRANK
The World Soil Day, organised by Departments of
Biology and Art took place on 5th of December at BELS.
During this half daylong event BELS students reinforced
the environmental awareness through an artistic and
scientific activity. By this way, students have found an
occasion to internalize the importance of nature and
necessity to protect it.
To experience scientific process, students involved in
both construction of body structure being wrapped by
plaster gauze and insemination of seeds to the structure
in the school garden. Therefore, they initiated the
integration of structure with nature. At the same time,
they put a new face on campus through an aesthetical
perspective under the supervision of Paul Brauer, our art
teacher.
Students carried out the requirements of having
responsibility, productivity, communication, creativity,
innovation, critical thinking, problem solving, flexibility
and leadership skills which are also 21st century skills.
This activity is becoming more of an issue not only in our
school but also in Erzurum considering the limitations of
Erzurum’s extreme natural conditions.
