Safety Spotlight Travel Safety Tips March 2016 Spring break travels are in store for many families this month. Here are a few tips to help you get ready for safer travels. Before You Go 1. Did you complete a Vacation House Watch form with the Southlake Police Department? 2. Did you stop your mail and newspaper deliveries? 3. If traveling by vehicle, do you have an emergency supply kit that includes jumper cables, flashlights, a first aid kit, and basic tools? 4. Are your children’s car seats installed securely? 5. Make your driving safe by getting enough sleep and ensuring everyone buckles and stays buckled at all times. While You Are Away 1. Choose a hotel that is protected by both smoke alarms and a fire sprinkler system. 2. Take the time to find the exits and count the number of doors between your room and the exit. Make sure the exits are unlocked. If they are locked report it to the management right away. 3. Designate a meeting place in the event you are separated at the places you visit. 4. Keep your room key by your bed and take it with you if there is a fire. 5. If the alarm sounds, leave right away, closing all doors behind you. Use the stairs—never use elevators during a fire. 6. Utilize the hotel safe for your valuables.
