For USC Aiken, Nick Jobst was the second PBC player taken, going in the 15th round with the 451st pick to the Baltimore Orioles. A 6-3 junior right-handed pitcher from Lake In The Hills, Ill., Jobst saw time in 29 games for the Pacers this season. He posted a 6-3 mark and tallied a team-best five saves. Jobst held opponents to a. 186 batting average and struck out 57 batters in 34.0 innings of work.
The Pacers’ Chaz Pal was the final PBC player taken in the draft, picked up in the 38th round by the Houston Astros. A 6-0 senior outfielder from Deerfield Beach, Fla., Pal garnered Southeast Region all-tournament team accolades. He started 53 games, batting. 336. Pal drove in 52 runs while crossing home 51 times. The second-team all-conference honoree had four, four-hit performances on the season. Pal knocked in a season-high five RBI against Montevallo. In just two years under head coach Kenny Thomas, Pal batted. 363 and slugged. 583. He drove in 110 RBI and scored 112 times.
The Chicago Cubs took North Georgia’ s Sam Tidaback in the 21st round with the 644th pick. A graduated senior from Plainfield, Ill., Tidaback was a second-team All-Conference selection at catcher. He hit. 340 for the Nighthawks with 11 home runs and 52 RBIs – both numbers among the top 20 in the PBC. He also slugged. 566 with a. 417 on-base percentage and threw out six base stealers this season.
Francis Marion senior outfielder JD Crowe was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 23rd round. A two-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection, Crowe was second on the team in hitting with a. 347 average. He led the team in most power-number categories with 11 doubles, eight home runs, 49 runs batted in, and a. 539 slugging percentage. The Birmingham, Ala., native also scored a team-high 47 runs and led the Patriots with 11 stolen bases( in 11 attempts). He registered an OPS of. 978, was named the Patriot team MVP, hit safely in 41 of 49 contests, and reached base safely in 48 of 49 games. He also posted 20 multi-hit and 12 multi-RBI games.
Flagler’ s Mike O’ Reilly was selected in the 27th round( 804th overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Shoreham, New York native made 14 starts for the Saints in 2016, posting 6-3 record with a 4.13 earned run average. O’ Reilly led Flagler with 99 strikeouts in 90.2 innings of work. He punched out a career-high 12 hitters vs. Barry on March 20 and fired a five-hit shutout against No. 17 Columbus State( March 25). The Cardinals’ selection was named the PBC Pitcher of the Year in 2015 and all-southeast region.
Montevallo’ s Dane Hutcheon was taken in the 29th round by the Minnesota Twins. Hutcheon started all 53 games for the Falcons during his junior season and posted a. 365 batting average with three home runs while driving in 43 runs. He finished eighth in the Peach Belt Conference with 85 hits on the season, scored 58 runs and stole 16 bases in 17 attempts, with his runs scored and stolen bases ranking him 11th in the Peach Belt Conference in the category. The Colorado Springs native recorded a. 424 on-base percentage and a. 468 slugging percentage
