High School Castlemont High School 8601 MacArthur Boulevard, 94605 639-1466 www.ousd.k12.ca.us/castlemont Site Code 301 | Options Code 1 9-12 2012-13 marked the reopening of a single comprehensive high school on the Castlemont campus, which celebrates and honors the rich legacy of the East Oakland community. Rooted in the core values of kinship, resilience, respect, passion, and hard work, Castlemont High School will partner with community-based organizations and families to work toward the goal of having all students graduate eligible to enter the UC/CSU system. Through our partnership with College Board, we offer a multitude of Advanced Placement courses in all content areas. Additionally, Castlemont offers English Language De velopment courses and a rich variety of elective courses in the visual and performing arts, digital media arts, leadership, cultural studies, and sustainable urban design. For incoming ninth grade students, The Freshman Prep Academy (FPA) at Castlemont offers a robust academic program that is a transitional bridge from middle school to high school. Castlemont’s ninth graders will complete four A-G courses in their ninth grade year, including Ethnic Studies and Urban Ecology, preparing them for success throughout high school. Additionally, FPA students take the majority of their classes in a single building, ensuring that students have a gradual introduction to the larger high school campus. Castlemont’s afterschool program offers tutoring and homework support to students, enrichment programming in the arts, internship programming, and a strong athletics program. Finally, Castlemont has a strategic partnership with Youth Uprising and Children’s Hospital, providing students with wrap-around services through the Full Service Community School (FSCS) model, ensuring that all students are safe, healthy, and engaged. 92 Oakland Unified School District Enrollment Options Guide 2015-16 Sustainable Urban Design Academy at Castlemont High School (9-12) Site Code 301 | Options Code #2 The Sustainable Urban Design Academy empowers students through a highly rigorous, engaging and supportive learning environment to graduate prepared for college, career and life as designers and leaders of movements towards a sustainable and just world.  Through the academy courses students gain the knowledge and understanding of the environmental and human systems that most affect our lives. The academy prepares students for the Agricultural and Natural Resources sector with an Urban Design perspective with a focus on Agricultural Business, Agriscience, Forestry and Natural Resources and Horticulture. Students learn about local vs. conventional food systems and the impacts of the food industry on energy consumption and waste, and how to design urban food systems that are more efficient and healthier for people, the community and the planet. This is a California Partnership Academy within a comprehensive high school. Participation in the Academy is based on student interest.
